[red dot] COSPAR SPACE SCIENCE AWARD

The COSPAR Award honors a scientist who has made outstanding contributions to space science. All scientists working in any field covered by COSPAR are eligible for this award.

[red dot] COSPAR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION MEDAL

This medal is awarded to a scientist who has made distinguished contributions to space science and whose work has contributed significantly to the promotion of international scientific cooperation. All scientists working in any field covered by COSPAR are eligible for this medal. This medal may also be awarded to a group of scientists.

Nominations for the four awards listed above will be considered by an Awards Committee appointed by the COSPAR Bureau. After considering the recommendations of the Awards Committee, the Bureau will make a final selection.

JOINT AWARDS

[red dot] MASSEY AWARD

The Royal Society of London/COSPAR Massey Award honors the memory of Sir Harrie Massey, FRS, past Physical Secretary of the Society and past member of the COSPAR Bureau. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to the development of space research, interpreted in the widest sense, in which a leadership role is of particular importance. These are the only requirements, and the award is open to all candidates from any country.

[red dot] VIKRAM SARABHAI MEDAL

This medal is awarded jointly by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and COSPAR in honor of Vikram Sarabhai, considered one of the architects of modern India. The medal is awarded for outstanding contributions to space research in developing countries. For a candidate to be eligible for this award, her or his relevant work must have been carried out mainly in the five year period ending one year before the COSPAR Scientific Assembly at which the medal is to be presented. This medal is open to candidates from any country.

The Jeoujang Jaw Award, bestowed jointly by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and COSPAR, recognizes scientists who have made distinguished pioneering contributions to promoting space research, establishing new space science research branches and founding new exploration programs.

The Zeldovich Medals are conferred by the Russian Academy of Sciences and COSPAR to young scientists for excellence and achievements. They honor the memory of the distinguished astrophysicist Academician Yakov B. Zeldovich.

[red dot] COSPAR OUTSTANDING PAPER AWARD FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS

Candidates must be first authors under 31 years of age at the time the manuscript is submitted for publication in Advances in Space Research. Award recipients will be selected from among a minimum of five competitors per Commission/Panel. The number of awards attributed by each Scientific Commission/Panel for any two year period must not exceed 1/3 of the total number of eligible papers considered by each Scientific Commission/Panel.

The Publications Committee, relying on assistance and advice from Guest Editors and Commission officers, will recommend recipients for the award to the Bureau.


Nominations for all COSPAR and joint awards, except the Outstanding Paper Award, shall consist of:

- a filled in nomination form signed or endorsed by a person authorized to nominate,
- a curriculum vitae with a general description of the space research activity of the nominee, and
- a list of significant, selected publications, not more than about 25. The publications most relevant to the award should be clearly identified.

All nominations must reach the COSPAR Secretariat no later than end November of the calendar year preceding the Scientific Assembly, i.e., 30 November 2009 for the Assembly to be held in 2010.
