Applications are now open for MACONDO: Unveiling the Universe in the JWST Era, a COSPAR Capacity-Building Workshop to be held at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in Bucaramanga, Colombia, 1–12 March 2027.
The MACONDO Workshop will provide students and early-career researchers from Latin America with intensive training in the use and scientific analysis of James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observations. The program will combine lectures with extensive hands-on sessions covering the complete path from accessing and reducing JWST observations to their scientific analysis and interpretation. Participants will work directly with data from NIRCam, NIRSpec, and MIRI, exploring imaging and spectroscopy across a broad range of astrophysical applications, including exoplanets, brown dwarfs, and galaxies.
The program will be hosted by the Physics Department at UIS. There is no registration fee. Accommodation will be fully provided for all selected non-local participants, and meals will be covered for all selected participants.
More information about the scientific program, invited lecturers, eligibility, financial support, and application process is available on the MACONDO JWST Workshop website.
Deadline for application: 1 November 2026
Please share this announcement across Latin America with those who may be interested in JWST, infrared astronomy, exoplanets, brown dwarfs, galaxies, or cosmology.
