COSPAR Signs the Statement for a Responsible Space Sector

Paris, 11 March 2026

During the Paris Space Week, COSPAR Vice President Dr. Catherine Cesarsky signed the Statement for a Responsible Space Sector on behalf of COSPAR, officially making the organization a signatory to this important initiative.

The Statement, driven by the European Space Agency (ESA) and launched in 2022, reflects a shared commitment among European space actors to contribute to the long-term sustainability of space activities and to promote the socially and environmentally responsible development of the space sector.

Commenting on the signing, Dr. Cesarsky noted:

“At COSPAR, we greatly welcome this initiative and commend the clarity and ambition with which it has been developed. It would be highly valuable to see it endorsed by the global space community. We are proud that COSPAR is among the first international scientific organizations to sign the Statement, and we look forward to contributing to its objectives through continued collaboration.”

By joining this initiative, COSPAR reaffirms its commitment to supporting a sustainable future for space through the promotion of scientific research, international collaboration, education and capacity building. As a global forum for the space science community, COSPAR is proud to contribute to collective efforts aimed at ensuring that space activities benefit both the space environment and life on Earth.
